Nuhash Humayun an aspiring dramatist and the feted son of renowned playwright Humayun Ahmed took to facebook on April 17 to address a controversial issue. The issue is concerned with intellectual property rights of heirs of Humayun Ahmed and the first film on his mystical character Misir Ali.
Issue was first raised by Sheila Ahmed, daughter of Humayun Ahmed. Before the launch of the first poster she claimed that any productions based on Humayun Ahmed's works will be liable to copyright infringement and should require permission from Humayun Ahmed's living family members. Nuhash claims that after this news broke out, prompt and responsible actions were taken by Joya Ahsan the producer of first silver adaptation of Misir Ali titled "Debi". Joya according to Nuhash started taking legal procedures to take permission from Humayun Ahmed's family members. She contacted Gultekin mother of Nuhash and Sheila Ahmed asking her for permission.

However after realizing that Joya's attempts to produce Debi was a common example of human error and that she earnestly wants to honour the rights of all of Humayun's family members over his intellectual property, they have consented to let her go on with the production. Nuhash also claims that Joya withheld all the promotional campaigns till the issue gets resolved.
He also claimed that permission only from Shawon Ahmed is not enough, permissions from all other heirs and family members of Humayun Ahmed is mandatory for starting work on any intellectual property of Humayun Ahmed. Permission from Humayun Ahmed's famous novelist brother Jafar Iqbal would also not suffice in this regard. This is not a personal or emotional pledge from the family members of Humayun Ahmed but simply an outlining of the clauses of the Intellectual Property Law, claims Nuhash.
