Students’ quota reform demand logical: DU VC

Expressing solidarity with the movement demanding reform in quota system,  Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman on Wednesday said the demand of the students is
logical.
"We have asked the government to take a quick measurer about quota reformation so that students can go back to their regular life" he added.
The VC came up with the remarks at a press briefing at his office at noon. The
VC also urged the law enforcing agencies to behave well and ensure safety of the agitating students.
He also said, "The demands of the students are not anti-quota rather demands to reform the existing quota system".
Terming the students' movement as a democratic one he said demands to quota reform must be reevaluated and assured students immediately", he added.
He also urged the law enforces to stay alert so that no intruders can get engaged themselves with demonstrators and don't occur any untoward situation, adding that the administration have been playing role as a catalyst on behalf of students.   
Referring to the attack on a female student of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, 'The university administration is adopting a 'zero tolerance' stance against such incident and a probe committee has been formed to look into the matter.'
Talking about the attack on his official residence, the VC said, 'I feel safe in the hands of my students.'
Earlier on Monday night, 'some protesters' demanding reformation of the existing quota system in public service broke the main entrance of the VC's residence and ransacked several rooms and furniture.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University Teachers' Association issued a press statement reiterating their solidarity with the ongoing country-wide students' movement demanding reformation of the existing quota system.
DUTA authorities urged the authorities concerned to fulfill their demand and come up with a clear announcement in this regard as soon as possible.
