Three people were killed during a gunfight between a bandit gang and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members at Swarankhola range in the Sundarbans under Bagerhat district on Thursday morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

RAB claimed that the trio were the members of 'Sumon Bahini'.

On secret information that members of 'Sumon Bahini' were staying in Shukhpara Char area, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there around 8:40am, said Major Sohel Rana Prince, company commander of RAB-8 in Barisal.

Sensing presence of the team, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing the RAB personnel to fire back that triggered a gun-battle.

Three robbers were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said the RAB commander.

They recovered two single barrel guns, a rifle, a pipe gun, four sharp weapons and 39 bullets from the spot.
