Prof Dr Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam joined as the vice chancellor of Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) on 1 January. Ms Anjuman Ara Shahid, vice chairman of BoT at Canadian University of Bangladesh received the new VC in a 'Welcome Ceremony' at the auditorium of the university.
It is to be mentioned that, Chancellor of the university, Abdul Hamid, on 10 December, 2017 appointed him as vice chancellor for four years from the date of joining. The appointment was made as per Section 31 (1) of Private University Act, 2010. Prior to joining as the VC, Dr. Islam has served various national and international organizations as a prominent educationist, administrative leader and researcher. He was a Professor and the Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) of BUET.
Prof. William H. Derrenger delivered welcome speech and thanked every faculty and officers for their wonderful support during his tenure as the acting vice chancellor while Brig. Gen. Md. Asaduzzaman Subhani (Retd.), registrar, gave vote of thanks to the all presents in the ceremony. S. M. Arifuzzaman, associate professor & head of the School of Business conducted the program.
Among others, Chowdhury Raheeb Safwan Sarafat, member of BoT at Canadian University of Bangladesh, Mr. Hanif Mahtab, associate professor of Business School and proctor In-charge & head of Career Service Wing, Md Latiful Khabir, associate professor of Business School and Head of Student Service Wing & Students' Directorate, and other faculties & officers of the university were also present at the programme.
