
December, the month of victory, is a proud month for the Bangladeshis due to the victory of independent and sovereign Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has contribution and reminiscent places of the Liberation War. During the days of the Liberation War, the teachers, students, officers and employees of the university responded to the freedom movement and joined in the war. At that time Vice-chancellor QMF Rahim declared, "From now on this university will be named as Swadhin Bangladesh Krishi Bishwabidyalaya." Teachers, students, officers and employees of BAU joined the war and the university lost 18 members -- a teacher, eleven students, and six employees.
On 23 April, Pakistani army came by train and established their army camp at Sutiakhali, Mymensingh. On April 23-24, they killed two employees of the university.
To dedicate the sacrifice in liberation war, BAU authorities built Bijoy '71, sculpted by Shaymol Chowdhury, in front of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium in 2000.
A 'Genocide Plaque' is also built by BAU authorities near the Brahmaputra River where a large number of people were tortured and massacred during April to December in the liberation war.
Three resident halls have been named after freedom fighters that who their lives in the war of liberation such as Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall, Shaheed Nazmul Ahsan Hall and Shaheed Jamal Hossain Hall.
