The Election Commission (EC) has estimated the possible expenditure of the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) elections to amount around Tk 3 crore.
The money will be spent for training election officers, paying salary allowances, installing CC cameras in polling centers, procuring Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), ballot papers, seals, stamps and different types of bags.
Senior Assistant Secretary of the EC Enamul Haque told the Daily Observer, "Two percent of the cost will be spent n maintaining law and order. We have allocated Tk 3 crore but the amount may cross the limit depending on how much will be spent on law enforcement agencies. However, there is no problem if the expenditure increases since the EC has sufficient funds", he said.
The RCC consists of some 193 polling centers. At least 22 members of the law enforcing agencies will be deployed at every voting center while some 24 law enforcement personnel will be deployed in the risky polling stations in the RCC areas.
The EC will deploy over 3,500 members of different law enforcement agencies including police, RAB, APBN and Ansar in the upcoming RCC elections to ensure security of voters.
Members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed with arms in every polling station.
Rangpur Regional Election Officer Subhash Chandra Sarkar was made Returning Officer of the election. Also 11 assistant returning officers have been appointed.
There are some 33 general wards and 11 reserved wards in RCC area. The returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers on November 25 and 26. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is December 3. Symbols will be allocated on December 4.
Out of a total 388,421 voters, 196,659 are male and 191,762 female voters. Voting will take place on December 21.
