The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has said that it has found evidence of suspected war criminal Mahbubur Rahman's involvement in the killing of noted philanthropist Ranada Prasad Saha of Tangail.
The agency on Thursday announced to have finalised its report on probe into the alleged war crimes committed by Mahbubur Rahaman during the Liberation War in 1971.
"We have brought three specific charges of crimes against humanity against Rahman. He was involved with the killings of 64 people in Tangail and Narayanganj, including philanthropist Ranada Prasad Saha and his son Bhabani Prasad Saha," said coordinator of the agency Md Abdul Hannan Khan.
Flanked by co-coordinator Sanaul Huq, investigation officer Md Ataur Rahman and other senior officials of the agency, Khan said they will now submit the 380-page investigation report in four volumes to the ICT prosecution.
"Abdul Wadud, father of Mahbubur Rahman, was the president of Mirzapur unit of Peace Committee. Rahman and his brother Abdul Mannan joined Razakar Bahini when the war broke out. He and his cohorts from Razakar Bahini with the help of Pakistani occupation army abducted seven people including Ranada Prasad Saha, his son Bhabani Prasad Saha on May 7, 1971. They were later killed and their bodies were thrown into the river Shitalakkhya," Khan said.
The investigation agency boss said ASP Md Ataur Rahman conducted the probe against Mahbubur Rahman for 1.6 year and recorded testimonies of 60 people. The accused is now behind the bars after getting arrested on November 7, 2016.
