EMK Center and ARTCON jointly have organised a two-weeklong solo painting exhibition titled 'CRYPTIC MONOLOGUE' by artist Javed Jalil, from October 02 - 19 at EMK Center, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Artist Javed Jalil has been chosen as the featured artist for the period celebrating the 5th anniversary of the founding of the 'Edward M Kennedy Center for Public Service and the Arts'. An artist with certain roots in the USA, Jalil's profile mirrors the goals of the EMK Centre, that is fostering connections between US and Bangladesh. Exhibition is open from 10 am to 8 pm during the running period while Friday marks holiday for the gallery.
Born in 1969 artist Javed Jalil literally found himself during his stay in Los Angeles, where his quest for escape from the realities of his surroundings made him more observant of the physical world. That quest led him to fuse that physical world with that of his own feelings and observations, visually finding order in the process. His works are strongly rooted from that fusion, interpreting nature, and juxtaposition of those visuals to those of brutalities and vagaries of human behaviors we all seem to be capable of. He imagines himself at a center of a quest, where surrounding sensations, realities, both physical and non-physical, are brought together visually in his own vision, which he terms as his 'cryptic monologues'. In his own way, he finds order, poetry, and durability. The canvasses displayed reflect a long period of time through which this 'quest' has taken place, and still continuing. He calls each canvass a 'snapshot' of that moment in time, reflecting that journey of that moment, and encompasses a number of various concepts. With his own unique style of linear representations of expressions, one begins to see patterns emerging, subtleties of colours, and literally visual indulgences.
The exhibition ends today.
