The Director General of Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division, Ministry of Planning, also Additional Secretary Md Faruque Hossain, will attends a regional workshop in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The three-day workshop titled, "Corruption Risk Management in Procurement: Experiences and Way Forward," is scheduled to start today (Wednesday). At the invitation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, he left Dhaka on Tuesday to attend the workshop, jointly organized by the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangkok Regional Hub. The workshop brings together senior level practitioners from public procurement bodies, anti-corruption authorities and national audit offices to gain insight into existing corruption risk assessment methodologies, share country experiences and discuss practical ways to strengthen integrity of procurement systems in South and Southeast Asia. A senior official of the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (C &AG) and another from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are also supposed to join the conference.
The CPTU is implementing electronic government procurement (e-GP) in Bangladesh with a view to removing corruption and all hassles in public procurement and make the process faster and more competitive. The DG, CPTU is expected to share reforms implemented in Bangladesh's public procurement and steps taken to boost transparency and accountability in this important area of public expenditures.
