Shama and Poluck captivate IGCC audience

Indira Gandhi Culture Centre organised a "Rabindra Ode" by noted Tagore artist Shama Rahman and Elocutionist Samiul Islam Poluck at Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh in the city on April 22.
Shama Rehman rendered "Bohe Nirontoro", "Biroho Modhur Holo" , "Aji Bojon Ghore", "Aaj Jemon Kore Gaiche", "Bipul Torongo", "Majhe Majhe", "Oje Mane Na Mana", "Je Rate Mor", "Chaya Ghonaiche", "Shunalo Shunalo", "Sokatore", "Tomar Khola Hawa" and "Megher Pore Megh". Poluck recites "Shivastram", "Agaman", "Leelasangini", "Marjana", "Odeyo", "Milan" and more.  
Shama Rahman is one of the leading contemporary Rabindra Sangeet singers of Bangladesh. She trained under Late Ustad Fazlul Huq in classical music and subsequently at Chhayanaut and at the Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts in Dhaka under legends such as Late Atiqul Islam. She has brought out fourteen albums of Rabindra Sangeet. In early 2012, to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, UNESCO, Paris, released five of her audio albums on Tagore Songs. Simultaneously, as part of the celebrations of the publication of 100 years of "Gitanjali", UNESCO also released four more of her audio albums, all under UNESCO Programme "Tagore Neruda Césaire: An Universal reconciled".
Besides concerts in Bangladesh, Shama has performed regularly in cities across India, Canada, USA, and many countries in Europe. Her major concerts include a solo concert in the UNESCO, Paris as part of the global launch of her nine albums brought out by UNESCO. During the Indian launch of the albums brought out by UNESCO, she gave a series of solo concerts at the India Habitat Centre and India International Centre, New Delhi which was jointly organized by the UNESCO and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Samiul Islam Poluck is a promising elocutionist who started reciting from a tender age. He has trained under Mahidul Islam, Paroma Banerjee (Shantiniketan). He did a four-year diploma course in recitation from Bangladesh Shilpakala academy Faridpur from 1998-2002. He is a Gold Medalist and regular artist of Bangladesh Television. He has performed in prestigious stages in Bangladesh and India like Bangladesh National Theater auditorium, Bangla Academy, EMK Centre, Alliance Fran�aise, Kamani Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Rabindra Sadan, etc. He has represented Bangladesh in Visva-Bharati University's show 'UNITED STATES-INDIA-BANGLADESH, Cultural Connection through Rabindranath'. He has performed with eminent artists of India and Bangladesh such as Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Shama Rahman, Indrani Sen, Bratati Bandapaddhay, Manomoy Bhattacharya, Soumitra Chattopa dhyay, etc. Recently, Hindustan Records released his first solo album titled 'Iti Rabindranath'.
