HC orders to uphold dignity of Shaheed Minar

Published : Monday, 20 February, 2017 at 12:00 AM  Count : 308
The High Court (HC) on Sunday asked the government to implement its eight-point directives, including the construction of a language museum and making a list of language movement heroes to uphold the dignity of Central Shaheed Minar.
A two-member HC bench of the HC comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order following a petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
HRPB's lawyer Advocate Manzill Murshid moved the petition yesterday saying that most of the HC directives, issued in 2010, were not implemented so far.
On August 25, 2010, the HC issued the eight-point directive to the government to ensure the sanctity and dignity of the Central Shaheed Minar.
The court also asked the government to submit a progress report before it on implementation of the directives.
