Two autorickshaw passengers were killed and seven others injured after being hit by a bus at Pabna Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The accident took place around 12.30 PM at Satmail bazaar under Dapunia union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Shimul Pramanik, 32, son of late Jalal Pramanik from Sahapur area of Ishurdi upazila, and Safar Hossain, 30, son of late Altaf Hossain from Islamgati Bhatapara village under Dapunia union in Pabna Sadar.
According to locals, the accident occurred when a Ishurdi-bound 'Sabbir Paribahan' bus from Pabna bus terminal rammed a battery-operated autorickshaw in the midday. A passenger of the autorickshaw died on the spot and eight others sustained critical injuries. Among the injured, another succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
The injured were rescued and admitted to several nearby hospitals, they said.
Confirming the matter, Pabna Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Rawshan Ali said they have visited the spot and seized the autorickshaw involved in the accident. However, they could not seize the bus as its driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
The bodies were kept at Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal actions will be taken upon receiving any complaint in this regard, added the OC.
