A youth mason was reportedly beaten to death due to a dispute over debt money at Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj district on Sunday.

The incident took place around 5.30 AM at Shimulia village under the upazila.
Locals recovered the body of the victim Md Mijan, 25, while the accused was trying to dump the body in a pond, confirmed Tongibari Police Station officer-in-charge Mohidul Islam.

According to locals, an argument ensued between the victim and his colleague Shahadat, 19, over a dispute relating to borrowed money. At one stage of the argument, Shahadat struck in the head of Mijan several times with a hammer, leaving him dead on the spot.

Later, the body was handed over to police and subsequently sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said OC Mohidul Islam.
