Safi Mudassir Khan Jyoti, son of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was placed on a four-day remand by a Dhaka court on Saturday in a case filed over attempt to murder a man in Ashulia during the Anti-discrimination Students Movement.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Saiful Islam passed the order after Sub Inspector Abu Taher Miah of Ashulia Police Station , also Investigation Officer of the case , produced Jyoti before the court with a prayer to grant remand for seven days for interrogation.
Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul confirmed the matter to the Daily Observer.
The defence lawyer submitted a prayer to grant bail after rejecting remand prayer.
After hearing both the sides the court rejected the bail prayer and send him on remand for a four days.
A team of Dhaka district police raided a building in capital's Uttara area early Saturday and arrested him in connection with a case filed with the Ashulia police.
On September 1, a Dhaka court issued a travel ban on 10 people, including Asaduzzaman Khan, his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan and son Safi Mudassir Khan Jyoti.
Earlier on September 11, the victim Robiossani Shipu, student of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), filed an attempt to murder case with Ashulia police station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Safi Mudassir Khan Jyoti and 28 others.
The other prominent accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former UGC Secretary Dr Ferdous Zaman, former UGC Members Dr. Muhammad Alamgir, Dr Biswajit Chandra, and Dr Md Sajjad Hossain.
Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan, and their son Safi Mudassir Khan have been hiding since Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5.
Jyoti, the only son among the two children of the former home minister, is the managing director of 'Savar Refractories Limited', their family business.
According to the case statement, the complainant was shot at at around 4:00pm when he participated in the quota reform protests in front of the Bypail Central Jame Masjid in Dhaka's Ashulia on August 4.
