Democratic Student Force (DSF) on Saturday suspended its activities amid the ongoing student movement to impose ban on student politics on Dhaka University (DU) campus and resumption of DU Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.

The announcement was made on the DSF's official Facebook page.
Contacted, DSF's central Convener and also former DUCSU Social Welfare Secretary Akhter Hossain told the Daily Observer that new faces will come to reform the student organisation.

Akhter is now the Member Secretary of the newly formed National Citizen Committee.

"DSF leaders and activists were unified with the Anti-discrimination Student Movement and did not carry an independent banner during the July uprising. Later on, two of our top leaders became advisers to the interim government," Akhter said.

He said, "After the fall of fascist Sheikh Hasina government, we have seen that students are confused about how the student politics would operate on campuses. Since then, we decided to dissolve all the committees of the DSF and suspend its activities."

Akhter invited students to join the DSF and determine how it will run in future.

He declared that he, Advisers Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud, will not return to the DSF.

The DSF announced its inception at a press conference held in front of the DUCSU building on October 4 last year.

Later on, a 21-member central convening committee was announced for a one-year term.

Posts and Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam served as the Member Secretary of DSF, while Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan was the DU unit Convener of the student organisation.

DU students Nahid and Asif, key coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, took oath on August 8 as advisers to the interim government after the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5.

Apart from them, most of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were in various positions of the DSF.
