At least three people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents in Cumilla.
An elderly woman and her grandson were killed after being run over by a bus in Cumilla's Burichang upazila on Saturday.
The accident took place around 12:45pm on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at Kalakachua area in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rajia Begum, 50, from South Rachia village in Cumilla Adarsha Sadar upazila, and her grandson
Ismail Hossain, 8, from the same village.
Citing the victims family members, police sources said that a bus of 'Asia Aircon' transport rammed the duo when they were returning home from a relative's house and were attempting to cross the highway. They both died on the spot.
Moynamoti Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar Mojumder confirmed the incident, adding that after being informed, they have recovered the bodies from the spot and kept those in police custody.
In another accident, Abdul Mannan Munshi was injured in Elliotganj area of Daudkandi upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, when he was crossing the road last night, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Md. Shahinur Islam said.
Local people rescued him and took him to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The bodies were handed over to their family members, the OC added.
