At least four people were killed in separate road accidents in Cumilla and Meherpur Thursday night.
Our Cumilla Correspondent reports three people, including two students, were killed in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway under Daudkandi upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Tanveer Ahmed Roni, 23, a final-year honours student of Dhaka College and son of Delwar Hossain of Palgiri village of Kachua upazila of Chandpur district, and Roni's cousin Zahidul Islam Dipu, 21, a first-year student at Chandpur Govt College and son of Dulal Miah of the same village, and Abdul Mannan Munshi, 70.
The accident occurred in the area when they were going to Chandpur from Dhaka riding a motorcycle. On the way, a Cumilla-bound vehicle hit them in Pakhir Mor area under Daudkandi upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway around 9:00pm last night, leaving them dead on the spot, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Md Shahinur Islam said.
In another accident, Abdul Mannan Munshi was injured in Elliotganj area of Daudkandi upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, when he was crossing the road last night, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Md Shahinur Islam said.
Local people rescued him and took him to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. The bodies were handed over to their family members, the OC added.
Our Meherpur Correspondent adds a student was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Shalika village under Sadar upazila of the district last night (Thursday).
The deceased was identified as Dulal Hossain, 15, son of Madan Ali of Ramnagar village of Mujibnagar upazila of the district. He was a 10th grader at Kedarganj Technical School and College of the area.
The accident occurred in the area when they were going to Mujibnagar upazila from Shalika village riding a motorcyclist. On the way, the bike lost control and hit a roadside tree around 11:00pm last night, leaving three seriously injured, OC of Meherpur Sadar Police Station Kani Miah said.
Locals rescued them and took them to Meherpur General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Dulal Hossain dead. The body was handed over to the family members, the OC added.
