Bangladesh Students' Union (BSU) on Thursday evening staged a rally in front of National Museum at Shahbagh in the capital demanding scrapping of Cyber Security Act (CSA).
BSU also demanded withdrawal of all cases filed under the CSA.
Earlier the black law was named Digital Security Act (DSA).
BSU also demanded immediate and effective measures to stop killings along the Bangladesh border.
It demanded formation of a special tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the genocide committed by the fallen Sheikh Hasina regime, provide compensation to the martyrs' families, and ensure medical care and rehabilitation of the injured during students movement in July and August.
BSU DU unit President Megmallar Bosu said, "In last 15 years, we have seen over 650 citizens of Bangladesh killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border. There is no alternative but to adopt foreign policy by Bangladesh to ensure no more loss of life of Bangladeshi in the hands of the BSF."
"We need to give up submissive foreign policy of the fallen autocratic ruler and formulate a foreign policy based on equality. The interim government must take a strong stand on the issue of national sovereignty and stop border killings," said BSU central Organising Secretary Tamjid Haider Chanchal.
Demanding cancellation of CSA, BSU President Rageeb Nayeem said, "Just as Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, going against the aspirations of 1971, established BAKSAL and silenced the people's voice, his daughter followed the same policy. In between, both the BNP and the autocratic regime of Ershad also worked against the people's aspirations."
"The interim government has been formed on the blood of thousands of students and people. While we have extended our cooperation to the interim government, embodying the spirit of the popular uprising, we have kept our eyes wide open. If we see any reflection of any contrary thinking within the interim government, we will not remain silent," Rageeb said.
He said, "Fallen autocrat Sheikh Hasina and her accomplices who fled must be brought back to the country and tried for the genocide they had committed."
"Cyber Security Act is among the tools Sheikh Hasina used in last 15 years to silence the voice of the people. This instrument of the fallen autocrat must be repealed instead of amending it ," demanded Rageeb.
BSU General Secretary Rakibul Roni conducted the rally.
