Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned in the face of mass agitation and left the country. The Hasina government has been accused of killing people by indiscriminate shooting by members of law and order forces as well as party workers centered on the movement. At least 758 people died in the violence of the student uprising. Among them are students, women, children, journalists and leaders of various political parties.
Hundreds of cases were filed across the country from August 5 to Tuesday in these incidents. Most of which are murder cases. In some of these cases filed by the relatives of the victim, people from various professions including businessmen have been accused.
Meanwhile, joint operations are underway across the country. Many people have been arrested. The police are concerned about the accused in the murder and other cases filed over the anti-discrimination student movement.
After coming under criticism for these cases, the police headquarters directed that if the involvement of any accused is not found in the preliminary investigation, his name will be withdrawn. At the same time, no government official can be arrested in these cases without proper evidence.
Allegations have been received that in a case filed with Dhaka's Mohammadpur Police Station over the student-movement, an innocent trader named Mohammad Ullah Tipu, owner of 'Unique Trading Corporation' of Mohammadpur's Beribandh area, was arrested by RAB instead the arrest of accused Jubo League activist Md Tipu (Dis Tipu). The case number is '14/1046.
The detained Mohammad Ullah Tipu's uncle Zafar Ullah confirmed that Mohammad Ullah Tipu was sent to court after his arrest on September 8. He alleged that the incident was done to hide the original culprit. They want a fair trial.
In this regard, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that Tipu, who was arrested by RAB in an operation and brought to the police station as an accused, was initially shown as a suspect because he was similar to the accused mentioned in the case.
However, if the person who was arrested is not the same, after the investigation, his name will be removed from the list of the case, assured the OC.
Police inspector Hafizur Rahman said that the real culprits must be punished and the police are aware as if innocent people should not be harassed. We are working to resolve the complications that have arisen with Md Tipu and Mohammad Ullah Tipu subject to investigation, the inspector said.
Rafiqul Islam, the plaintiff of the case, regarding the complications between the accused Jubo League activist Md Tipu and the arrested Mohammad Ullah Tipu, said, "I actually do not know the person personally who has been arrested. I don't know whether he was the spot or not. On the day of the case, some local politicians helped me to file the case. They made the names of the accused in the case and I just signed it.''
''I have not confirmed that the arrested Tipu is that person who was involved in my brother's murder. I want no innocent person to be harassed'', he added.
He further said, ''My brother has been killed. He has a 14-month-old baby. I want a fair trial and compensation. The future of my brother's little child should not be ruined.''
