Professor Nazmul Hossain has been appointed as the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
An official order by the Health Education and Family Welfare Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was issued in this regard on Thursday.
Nazmul is currently serving as the acting director general of the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME). He will continue to hold this position in addition to his new responsibilities as the DG of DGHS, until further notice, according to the official statement.
The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.
Prior to this, Dr Nazmul Hossain served as a Professor in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Earlier, Prof Mohammed Robed Amin was appointed as the acting DG of DGHS on August 18. He has been unable to enter his office amid protests from a section of doctors.
However, the ministry's office order did not mention anything about Prof Robed Amin's further appointment.
