A few rounds of scuffles broke out between two factions of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) during a meeting in Habiganj, leading to vandising chairs in the programme venue on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the Habiganj Sadar Upazila Council Auditorium at noon.
Following the disruption, the ADSM coordinators decided to hold the meeting at the municipal ground instead. The meeting was initially convened to discuss student participation in nation-building and to address corruption, extortion, and terrorism.

However, the ADSM coordinators split into two groups.

One group continued to stage the event at the Sadar Upazila Council Auditorium, while the other organised the event at the Saifur Rahman Town Hall.

This division led to a heated confrontation, and eventually, one faction entered the Sadar Upazila Council Auditorium and vandalised chairs.

Later on ADSM central coordinators Hasibul Islam, Asadullah Al Galib, Sylhet Division coordinator Ashraful Alam, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology coordinator Azad Shikdar, and Brindaban Govt College coordinators proposed moving the meeting to the municipal ground.

However, this proposal was rejected by the organisers at the Sadar Upazila Council Auditorium.

Following the clashes, Mahdi Hasan, one of the main coordinators in Habiganj, told media that he and another coordinator Ashraful Islam Sujon were stepping down from all activities of the ADSM in protest against the attack and vandalism.

They have suspended all activities in Habiganj.
