The government has removed Professor Dr Robed Amin from his post of Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) amid protests from a section of doctors.
Professor Dr Nazmul Hossain, currently the Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education, has been appointed as the acting DG of the DGHS.
An official order signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Abu Raihan of the ministry was issued on Thursday (September 12).
Robed Amin was appointed on August 19, replacing Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.
However, the Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a group aligned with the BNP, had been protesting the appointment, filing complaints against Robed Amin with the health ministry.
They alleged that Robed Amin had opposed recent student-led mass movement and engaged in corruption and irregularities during his tenure as the Line Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Control.
Robed Amin denied the allegations, saying the allegations were not true and that he is taking leave due to illness.
