CHATTOGRAM, Sept 12: Miscreants grabbed port land at Laldiarchar construction of two container terminals, said Chattogram Port Authirity (CPA) sources.
"We asked the grabbers to vacate port's land, but the grabbers did not obey the order," said CPA Secretary Muhammad Omar Faruk. CPA plans to build two terminals over 78 acres of land on Laldiarchar on the estuary of the Karnaphuli River.
One container terminal will be built under Public Private Partnership (PPP) with AP Moller Maersk, a Danish shipping and logistics company on 32 acres of land.
The AP Moller Maersk will invest $400 million to build the container terminal at Laldia, under build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangements. It would be a government-to-government project between Bangladesh and Denmark.
On another 46 acres of land, the CPA will build several container yards with jetties at Ladiarchar, said CPA sources.
The CPA took the Tk 3,000 crore terminal project on the estuary of the river Karnaphuli with two berths, to be implemented in 36 months. The Laldia Terminals will have the capacity to handle three lakh Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units or TEUs of containers per year.
