The deputy secretary level officials of the administration, who are expecting posting as deputy commissioner (DC) during the recent appointment of DCs, demanded immediate cancellation of the appointment of all new DCs and appointment of DCs based on the merit list of the admin cadre officials.

The DC posting deprived deputy secretaries placed their demands to the Public Administration Ministry's Senior Secretary Dr Md Mokhles Ur Rahman at his Secretariat office.

According to the Public Administration Ministry sources, all new DCs have been asked to stay in their present positions without joining as DC until further notice. In a whatsapp group message, they have been given the instruction.

Due to the protest of the aggrieved officials expecting DCs posting, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus also cancelled a scheduled meeting with the newly appointed DCs at 1 l;00am on Wednesday.

While talking to media after the meeting, Deputy Secretary Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, coordinator of the protesting officials in the meeting, told that the senior secretary has heard their statement and assured that necessary steps will be taken after consultation with the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, who is also in the charge of the Public Administration Ministry.

The Public Administration Ministry issued two separate notifications on September 9 and 10 appointing some 59 new DCs. However, due to protest from the aggrieved officials, appointment of nine deputy secretaries as DC was cancelled. Of those, appointment of eight officials was cancelled on Wednesday and one DC's appointment was cancelled on Tuesday.

Nurul Karim Bhuiyan said, "Our main demand was those who stood against the students and mass people, involved with the killing, looting and against the reform of the country and were beneficiaries of the previous government must be ousted. The senior secretary agreed with our demand."

"We have many complaints and disputes against those who were posted as DC. They have taken benefits from the previous government. It is a critical procedure. So, the senior secretary must consult with the Chief Adviser. He assured us to cancel the two notifications as soon as possible," he added.

Nurul Karim said, "We want posting for the meritorious, qualified and honest officials as the main motto of anti-quota movement was ensuring recruitment of the brilliant and to establish leadership of the meritorious."
