A case has been filed against former lawmaker Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, also Awami League’s youth and sports affairs secretary, his father Golam Mortaza and 88 others on charge of carrying out attacks on students and general public during the anti-discrimination students' movement in Narail.
Sheikh Mostafa Al-Muzahidur Rahman Palash, member secretary Narail Sadar upazila unit BNP, filed the case with Narail Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, on Wednesday morning said around 400-500 unnamed persons made accused in the case. None has been arrested in the case yet.
Other accused in the case include -- district Awami League president Sobash Chandra Bose and general secretary Nizamuddin Khan, former mayor of Narail municipality and district Awami League vice-president Anjuman Ara, organising secretaries Mitul Kundu and Sardar Alamgir Hossain, Sadar upazila Awami League president Achin Kumar Chakraborty, district Juba League president VP Masum, general secretary Khokon Saha, Narail district Chhatra League president Naeem Bhuiyan, general secretary Swapnil Sikder and lawyer Mahmudul Hasan.
According to the case statement, the accused equipped with sharp weapons and firearms held a rally at Narail intersection during the quota reform movement on August 4.
When the procession of students demanding resignation of Sheikh Hasina reached Russel bridge area, the accused attacked the students, triggering a clash.
They also fired gunshots during the clash, leaving a number of protesters injured, according to case statement.
