Ex-energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi arrested

Police have arrested former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury from Gulshan area in the capital.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested him at about 9:45PM on Tuesday, Rezaul Karim Mallik, additional commissioner of DB, confirmed.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi was taken to DB and he was shown arrested in one case, Rezaul Karim added.

Tawfiq had been the power, energy and mineral resources advisor to Sheikh Hasina since the Awami League government came to power in 2009.

He went into hiding after the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
