As per section 22 of the National Sports Council Act 2018, the interim government released presidents of 42 sporting federations and associations. The initiative was taken to nurture sporting activity and bring transparency to the sports arena.
A large number of these federations and associations were inactive for quite a while and many did not have an elected executive body. Many of the sporting federations and associations were not active in any way.
There are some obligations to fulfil for these federations and associations to maintain their affiliation with the National Sports Council (NSC) and get govt financial backing. The obligations include regular activities, arranging national events, holding elections and AGM regularly, and maintaining financial transparency. However, many were not doing so. That is why the decision came in on Tuesday.
