Ex-chief whip Feroz sent to jail in murder case after remand

Former chief whip ASM Feroz has been sent to jail following his remand in a case filed on charge of killing of a youth in Bhatara area of Dhaka city during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order on Monday as police produced the former Patuakhali-2 lawmaker before the court after end of his remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars.

Police arrested ASM Feroz from the Banani area on August 23 and a court placed him on seven-day remand the next day. He was placed on three-day fresh remand on August 31.

According to the case document, on July 19, Sohagh Miah, 16, was shot by police in front Farazi Hospital under Bhatara Police Station. He died on the spot.

Shafayet Hossain, father of the victim, filed the case against 91 including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on August 20.
