Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General, Prof. Mia Golam Parwar, clarified that former army officer Abdullahil Amaan Azmi's remarks regarding the national anthem do not reflect the party's stance.
Speaking to journalists after a discussion program in Rangpur city, Prof. Parwar stated, "Azmi is not associated with Jamaat, and his comments on changing the national anthem are entirely his own."
Prof. Parwar also said that Jamaat-e-Islami holds no responsibility for Azmi's statement and reaffirmed the party's focus on national reforms. He highlighted the country's pressing need for change, citing the damage done by the "fallen fascist government" over the past 15 years.
"The Constitution and the Election Commission require urgent reforms. Our state institutions have become overly partisan, and the challenge now is to restore fairness," Prof. Parwar added. He acknowledged the difficulty in cleaning up the political landscape but stressed the importance of necessary reforms for ensuring free and fair elections.
In his remarks, he also urged the interim government to prioritize electoral reforms in lead-up to the next national election.
Following the event, Jamaat-e-Islami provided financial aid to the families of martyrs from the anti-discrimination student movement.
