Six people were killed in a collision between a microbus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Kamarkandh upazila here on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Rezaul Karim, Abdul Majid, Jahangir Alam, Nuruzzaman, Tareq and Rashedul Islam. All of them except Rashedul Islam were the residents of Vatra village under Tarash upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Raiganj Thana Islam Rezaul islam said the accident occurred in front of ACI Food Factory on the Sirajganj-Nalka Regional Highway at around 11:45am, leaving auto rickshaw passenger Nuruzzaman, Tarek and Rashedul dead on the spot while Rezaul Karim, Abdul Majid and Jahangir died while undergoing treatment at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and North Bengal Hospital.
Rejaul Karim said the auto-rickshaw collided with the microbus at Kutirchar around noon, leaving three people dead on the spot and two others injured.
The two injured died when they were being taken by police and firefighters to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College.
Vehicular movement on the road was halted for some time following the accident.
