Popular YouTuber Ashraful Hossain, also known as Hero Alam, was assaulted at Bogura Chief Judicial Magistrate Court premises on Sunday.
The incident occurred when he went to the court to file a case relating to earlier assaults and alleged conspiracy against him during the 2023 national elections. The case lists Obaidul Quader, Awal, Alam's opposition candidate and former lawmaker Rezaul Karim Tansen (Jasad) of Bogura-4 constituency, and 27 other AL leaders and activists.
According to Hero Alam, supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) assaulted him, forcing him to do sit-ups while holding his ears, and then assaulted him. He is currently undergoing treatment at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Hero Alam claims that he was attacked for comments allegedly made about BNP leader Tarique Rahman, though he denies making any such remarks. He stated, "If anyone can show footage of me insulting Tarique Zia, I will go through any punishment."
Bogura district BNP vice-president Abdul Bashed denied the allegations, suggesting that Hero Alam's claims were aimed at tarnishing the party's image.
Bogura Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Rahim Rana confirmed hearing about the attack but have yet to receive any formal complaint.
