The leading industry group PHP family is going to add new dimension to the country's solar energy sector. The company has taken the initiative to generate its own electricity by installing solar panels on the roofs of its textile mills and steel mills.
It is known, in the initial phase, solar panels with a total capacity of 1740 KW will be installed in these two mills. It is targeted to generate about 2000 MW of electricity annually from these panels. As a result, around 1100 tonnes of carbon emissions will be reduced.
Shafiqur Rahman Khan, an official of PHP Family, said that in the future, they have plans to install solar panels on the roofs of other institutions as well. By doing this, it will be possible to meet a significant part of the total electricity demand of the company from its own sources.
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, director of United International University's Energy Research Center and renewable energy expert, welcome the initiative of the PHP family.
He said, solar energy is an environment friendly energy source. Using it reduces carbon emissions and helps reduce the rate of climate change.
