A Dhaka court on Sunday sent former shipping minister Shajahan Khan to jail as he fell sick during his remand in a case filed over the killing of one Abdul Motalib in Dhanmandi area during Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order as police produced him before the court after the end of his two out of seven-day remand in the case as Shahjahan fell sick and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of the investigation is complete.
On September 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed placed Shajahan Khan, also Awami League presidium member, on seven-day remand in the case. Shajahan was arrested from Dhanmondi area of Dhaka city on September 5.
According to the case documents, Abdul Motalib, 14, joined student movement in Dhanmondi area on August 4. He was shot on chest and throat as police opened fire on the procession.
Abdul Matin, father of the victim, filed the case with Dhanmandi police station against 176, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former shipping minister Shajahan Khan.
