The well-marked low over West Central Bay and adjoining northwest Bay moved northwestwards, intensified into a depression and lies over the same area at 6AM on Sunday.
It is likely to move northwesterly direction and intensify further, according to the special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD).
Under its influence, steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay. Gusty or squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, it said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 KMH of the depression centre is about 40 KPH rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the system, it added.
However, maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three as gusty or squally weather may affect ports, the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain closed to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy falls at some places over the country in next 24 hours from 9AM on Sunday.
Meanwhile, mild heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Rajshahi, Jashore, Chuadanga, Tangail and Faridpur and it may continue, a met release said.
The BMD said that the axis of monsoon runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, center of the Depression to Assam across southern part of Bangladesh.
Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay.
Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Country's maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 37.0 degrees Celsius jointly at Rangpur, Rajarhat and Sylhet as minimum temperature today was recorded 23.6 degrees Celsius at Khepupara.
Country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6AM on Sunday was recorded 102 millimeters (mm) at Nikli.
