Pro-BNP Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) on Saturday demanded cancellation of the appointment of Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Mohammed Robed Amin and removal of officials who were appointed at the health department and other healthcare facilities during Sheikh Hasina regime.
The association came up with the demands at a press conference held at National Press Club in the morning.
DAB General Secretary Md Abdus Salam placed seven demands reading out from a written statement.
However, DAB does not want ban on politics in the health sector.
Their other demands included identification of physicians who refused to treat injured people during student-led movement across the country and cancellation of their registration from BMDC, promotion of doctors and staff who were victims of political vengeance and posting the doctors who were victims during the protests to various institutions including medical colleges, universities, institutes and nursing colleges.
The DAB also demanded identification of corrupt officials in the health sector in the last 16 years and their punishment, scrapping the expert panel committee formed to strengthen the health sector and reforming the committee with representatives of doctors.
"The interim government has come to defying various obstacles. We support them. I don't want the advisers to resign. But if any part of this government wants to rehabilitate dictatorship, we will stand against it," said DAB President Prof Harun Al-Rashid.
He said, "We want an end to the dark part of politics. But, if we ban politics in the health sector, this will create a situation like cutting off the head if you have a headache."
