A Madaripur court on Saturday cleared BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman of defamation charges.

The court’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Obhijit Chowdhury acquitted Tarique in the case on Saturday, in response to a plea filed in this regard on August 7.
On 15 December 2014, during a speech in London, the BNP leader termed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman “a big Razakar” for having himself banned Awami League.

About a week later, a pro-Awami League lawyer filed a case against Tarique with Madaripur Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court over his “derogatory remark” against the Father of the Nation.
