A police constable was arrested on charges of shooting a college student to death at Konabari union of Gazipur Sadar upazila during the student movement.
A police team raided at Parail area in Kishoreganj and arrested Md Akram Hossain, 22, served as a constable in Gazipur Industrial Police.
The victim Md Hridoy, 20, was son of Lal Mia and hailed from Alamnagar village under Tangail's Gopalpur upazila. He was 11th grade student of Hemnagar Degree College and used to drive autorickshaw to bear his educational costs.
During the student movement, a video went viral on social media which shows that a group six policemen took Hridoy to a lane and assaulted him. During that time, a policeman shot him in his stomach. He immediately fell on the ground and was covered in blood.
According to the case statement, Akram Hossain, who was on duty at Konabari area during the student movement, shot Hridoy to dead while several hundreds of student brought out a protest march on the Konabari highway.
Later, the deceased cousin Md Ibrahim filed a murder case with Konabari Police Station accusing 57 named individuals and 250 to 300 unidentified people.
Subir Kumar Saha, assistant commissioner of Gazipur Metrolpolitan Police (Konabari zone), confirmed the arrest, adding that Akram was later sent to jail following a court order.
