Hundreds of job seekers staged demonstration blocking Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka on Saturday to press home their demand for extending the age limit up to 35 years for government jobs.

The protesters carried a banner urging the chief adviser's attention to their demands.

They said that the current age limit for civil service applications is 30. They have been carrying out this movement for the last 12 years. The previous Awami League government did not accept their demand.

So they urged the student-friendly government to implement the age limit at least 35 years and publish it in the form of a gazette.

Meanwhile, the protest began around 1pm on Saturday and the vehicular movement at Shahbagh and surrounding roads came to a standstill since then.

Only ambulances are being allowed to pass through Shahbagh, while most vehicles are being redirected to alternative routes, witnesses said.
