A woman was reportedly hacked to death by her husband in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila on Saturday morning over an alleged extramarital affair.
The incident occurred in the Tetlabo area of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Roksana Begum, daughter of Sahjahan Howlader, hailed from Barguna district. Her husband is from Barishal district. They were living in a rented house in Rupganj.
According to locals, Roksana married to Nuruzzaman nine years ago. They had been residing in the area because Nuruzzaman worked in a local garment factory.
Nuruzzaman had suspected for the past few days that Roksana was having an extramarital affair, leading to frequent quarrels between them.
On Saturday morning, Nuruzzaman attacked Roksana with a weapon, killing her, and then fled the scene. Their five-year-old daughter was also injured in the attack.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Lyakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station.
The injured child are taking treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), and legal procedures are ongoing in this regard, the OC added.
