RAJSHAHI, Sept 5: The bodies of four people, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Padma River near Char Majardia in Paba Upazila of the district, have been recovered by locals.
The bodies surfaced on Monday night and were found in the Padma River near Char Khanpur.
The deceased were identified as Md Raju, son of Enamul Haque; Md Sobuz, son of Entaz; Mohammad Ali, son of Khalil; and Md Faruque, son of Kalam; residents of Chor Majhardiar area in Paba Upazila.
It was known that four people went missing as a boat capsized in the Padma River in Chor Majhardiar area of the upazila at around 7 pm on Sunday.
Later on, locals recovered the bodies of Mohammad Ali and Raju from Char Khanpur area at around 10 pm on Monday, and the bodies of Sabuj and Faruk from the same area at around 2 am, said Local Union Parishad (UP) Member Humayon Kabir.
The UP member further said that Fire Service personnel conducted a search operation on Monday morning, but they failed to find any of the missing individuals. Later on, locals started searching the missing with their boat and recovered the bodies at night.
The funeral prayers were held on Tuesday morning, and the bodies were buried by their respective family members, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of Rajshahi Metropolitan River Police Md Shahrier.
However, no case has been filed in this regard, the SI added.
