The United Nations has allocated $4 million in aid for people affected by floods in Bangladesh.

It was revealed in a statement read before a regular press briefing at the office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres' spokesperson on Wednesday.
In the briefing, Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, read the statement regarding the flood situation in Bangladesh before moving to the question-and-answer session covering various global issues.

Dujarric mentioned that Joyce Msuya, the Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator of the UN, has allocated this funding from the organization's Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). This financial assistance will be used to aid approximately 6 million people affected by the floods in Bangladesh since the end of last month.

In the briefing, Dujarric highlighted the recent flood situation in Bangladesh, stating that over 500,000 people have taken shelter in more than 3,400 relief centers.

He also mentioned that more than 7,000 schools have been closed due to the floods, affecting around 1.7 million students.

The flood has caused significant damage to the livestock and fisheries sectors, amounting to losses of $156 million.
