The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has asked all banks to provide the account-related information of former speaker of parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and her family members.
In a letter, BFIU instructed banks and other financial institutions to submit the account information of Shirin Sharmin, her husband Syed Ishtiaque Hossain, their son Syed Ibtesham Rafiq Hossain, and daughter Lamisa Shirin Hossain, and Md Shafiul Islam, proprietor of The Subhana Traders.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury resigned from her post on September 2 (Monday), 27 days after the fall of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Meanwhile, on August 27, a murder case was filed against Shirin and 17 others, including former commerce minister Tipu Munshi, in connection with the death of goldsmith Muslim Uddin, 38, who was shot dead in Rangpur.
Shirin was elected as a member of parliament from the Rangpur-6 constituency. Shirin Sharmin was elected the speaker on April 30, 2013 and held the position continuously since then.
