The
Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement on Wednesday announced to hold
'Shaheedi March' today across the country, in remembrance of the martyrs
of the July Revolution on the one month anniversary of the fall of
Awami League government.
Coordinators of the student platform
made the announcement at a press conference at TSC Auditorium on Dhaka
University (DU) campus.
The central martyrdom march will begin from in front of the Raju Sculpture at DU at 3:00pm.
It
will parade from Raju Memorial Sculpture through New Market, Dhanmondi,
Manik Mia Avenue, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, and conclude at the
Central Shaheed Minar.
Coordinator Sarjis Alam said, "We believe
that now is the time to remember those who opened their arms to embrace
bullets. Therefore, we will hold a martyrdom march across the country
on the one-month anniversary of the fall of the autocrat Sheikh Hasina."
He invited the families of all martyrs to participate in the event.
"The
bloodstains have not yet dried. Our brothers are still suffering from
wounds. We request the media to document how our brothers were killed.
Many are calling for a victory procession, but as long as a new
Bangladesh is not formed and people do not have their rights back , such
a victory procession is not possible," he said.
Coordinator
Hasnat Abdullah said, "For the past 16 years, the party's constitution
has been imposed as the country's constitution. The Awami League has
turned into a religion. Everything was being 'Awamized'. Now, to come
out of this, everyone must unite."
He, however, said, "There
seems to be a tone of division among us. To ensure that fascism never
returns, everyone must unite. It is a matter of concern what those who
interfere with media freedom before coming to power might do once they
are in power. We want media freedom. We want a media that can question
those in power."
Coordinator Abu Baker Majumder said, "From
September 6th, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will start
visiting divisional and district cities to organise everyone. We will
talk to the public, find out what they want, and also provide some
suggestions. We will implement what the people want."
He urged,
"Do not take the law into your own hand. The new generation wants a
Bangladesh where everyone welcomes that Bangladesh.
Therefore,
you should assist the administration in maintaining law and order. If
you find criminals, hand them over to the law enforcement agencies. We
want a country governed by the rule of law. Those involved in the July
killings will not be spared."
