BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 28: The bodies of two female students of a local madrasa, who had been missing since Saturday, last, were recovered from a waterlogged field in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The bodies of the two teenagers were found in a field in Sadekpur Uttar Para area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Naima, 14, daughter of Billal Mia of Kalishima Village, and Maimuna, 15, daughter of Abdul Barek of Sadekpur Village in the upazila. Both of them were students of Jamia Solaimania Kashemia Ulum Madrasa in Payag Village of the same upazila.

Deceased Naima's father Billal Mia said that the girls left for the madrasa on Friday afternoon.

However, the madrasa authorities informed the families on Saturday morning that the girls were not at the institution. Upon receiving the news, the families rushed there, where the teachers mentioned that the girls were reprimanded the night before, and since then, they had been missing.

When the families requested to check CCTV footage, the teacher responded, "There is CCTV footage, but you can view it later. First, find the girls."

Later on, locals spotted the bodies of the duo in a waterlogged field in Sadekpur Uttar Para area of the upazila on Tuesday morning and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies.

The bodies were then sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.

Officer-in-Charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and the reason behind their deaths would be known after the autopsies.
