JURI, MOULVIBAZAR, Aug 24: A Hindu family has allegedly set fire to a temple with a view to putting blame on a freedom fighter (FF) in Juri Upazila of the district on Thursday.

Then, they started spreading falsehood on social media in various ways that the FF set ablaze their temple.
The incident took place in Binodpur Village under West Juri Union of the upazila at around 6 pm.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the incident.

It was known that accused Asit Kumar Shah and his family members forcefully brought FF Hazi Allauddin to their house. They then tied Hazi Allauddin to a chair and set fire to their temple using straw.

Later on, they falsely claimed on social media that the FF had vandalised the temple and set it on fire to incite religious tension.

On information, a team of Bangladesh Army and the police went to the scene and rescued the FF. The motive behind the incident was revealed after questioning Asit Kumar's family members.

On Friday afternoon, Hazi Allauddin filed a case against 18 people with Juri Police Station (PS).

Following the case, police arrested Asit Rudro Paul, 40, and Nadim Ahmed, 21.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Juri PS Md Mehedi Hasan said they have done a heinous act.

Police are working to arrest all individuals involved in the incident, the OC added.
