Hindu family set ablaze temple to put blame on freedom fighter

A Hindu family has allegedly set fire to a temple with a view to putting blame on a freedom fighter at Juri upazila in Moulvibazar district on Thursday.  

Then, they started spreading falsehoods on social media in various ways that the freedom fighter set ablaze their temple. 

The incident happened around 6:00 PM at Binodpur village under West Juri union in the upazila. 

Police have arrested two people in connection with the incident.

It was learnt that the accused, Asit Kumar Shah, and his family members Forcefully brought the freedom fighter, Hazi Allauddin, to their home. They then tied Hazi Allauddin to a chair and set fire to their temple using straw.

Later, they falsely claimed on social media that the freedom fighter, Hazi Alauddin, had vandalized the temple and set fire it to incite religious tensions. 

On information, a team of Bangladesh Army and the police went to the scene and rescued the freedom fighter. The motive behind the incident was revealed after questioning Asit Kumar's family members.

On Friday afternoon, Hazi Allauddin filed a case against 18 people. Following the case, police arrested Asit Rudro Paul, 40, and Nadim Ahmed. 21.

Md Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Juri Police Station, said they have done a heinous act like set fire of temple. 

The police are working to arrest all individuals involved in the incident, the OC added.
