Switzerland to cooperate with BD to bring back laundered money: Khasru

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Thursday, Switzerland is ready to cooperate with any initiative taken by the Bangladesh government to recover laundered money by  Awami League leaders. 

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday held a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh, Reto Renggli at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office.

After the meeting at a press conference BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, "We discussed with Swiss Ambassador about the situation in the country after the fall of the fascist Awami League, the economic and political situation of the country and how the smuggled money can be brought back to Bangladesh." 

"We exchanged views on how Bangladesh's collapsed istitutions. We discussed how to restore the destroyed institutions and make them functional again. The Ambassador  assured us of their cooperation in this regard," he added. 

Khasru said, "Awami League destroyed all political and economical institutions of the country." "Swiss Ambassador expressed his willingness to work with Bangladesh in the rebuilding programme," he said. 

Khasru said, "Country's constitutional institutions are in a 'fragile condition. At first we have to restore these institutions. 

Amir Khasru said, "We have repeatedly said that Awami League's people laundered more than $100 billion from Bangladesh. This bought our economy to the edge of collapse." 

"The people are feeling its impact in their daily life," he added. Khasru said, we discussed with Ambassador Reto Renggli bringing the laundered money back to Bangladesh. The Swiss  Ambassador assured all cooperation to bring back money to Bangladesh. 

He said, "The people of Bangladesh will exercise their right to vote and choose their representatives. This is the fundamental principle of democracy. There is no room for disagreement here."

Khasru said, "This interim government has a lot of work. We have not given them any time limit. We want to give them  reasonable time to hold an impartial election. Everyone expects it and those in the interim government believe it too."

"They have no disagreement with us here. We will continue to extend our full support to the interim government," he said.
