70 villages in two upazilas of Feni flooded again

FENI, Aug 20: A total of 70 villages in two upazilas, Porshuram and Fulgazi, of the district have been deluged again for the third time due to three-day downpour and upstream tide from India.

According to local sources, the water entered through the previous broken point of the Muhuri-Kahua-Silonia rivers'embankment.

In Porshuram Upazila, 40 villages were inundated in the municipality and three union areas while 30 ones were flooded in the same number of unions in Fulgazi Upazila.

According to sources at Water Development Board, at present, the water of these three rivers- Mahua, Kakua, and Silonia, is flowing above 55 centimetre of the danger mark at Porshuram and Fulgazi points.

The first flood hit these upazilas on July 1 while the second one hit them on August 2, breaking the embankment and inundating hundreds of villages in these two upazilas.

Porshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afroza Habiba Shapla said, in the third phase, Baurkhuma, Dublachad, Bilonia, Anantapur, Berabaria, and Kolapara in Porshurampur Municipality, Mirzanagar Union's Mirzanagar, Kali Krishnanagar, Kashinagar, Chhoyghoria, Dakkhin Kawtali, Champoknagar, Purba Saheb Nagar, Jongolghona, and Godanagar villages, Chithlia Union's Chandana, Palpara, Dakkhin Shaldhor, Uttar Shaldhor, Kismot Shaldhor, Malipathor, Paglirkul, Kunder Parh, Rajospur, Jongolghona, Pachwim Oloka, Purba Oloka, Noapur, Dhanikunda, Chithlia, Rampur, Durgapur villages, and Boxmahmud Union's Satkuchia, Charigram, Teteshwar, Baghmara, Jamiergaon, Kahua and Talbaria villages became  flooded.

In these villages, about 9,200 families have been marooned.

Fulgazi UNO Tania Bhuiyan said, Fulgazi Union's Nilaxmi, Gabtala, Montala, Gosaipur, Sreepur, Basura, Derhpara, and Uttar Daulotpur, and Munsirhat Union's Badarpur, Mandarpur, Koriya, Kalikapur, Kamalla, Poithara, Jammura, Fakirer Khil Kamua, Balua, Noapur, Chanpur, Dakkhin Taralia, Dakkhin Sreepur, and Kutubpur, and Amjad Haat Union's Talbaria, Uttar Dharmapur, Dakkhin Dharmapur, Monipur, Islamia Bazar, Basantapur, and Tarakucha villages have been flooded.

In these villages, 4,000 families have been water confined.

According to upazila administration sources, to face flood situations 500 packet dry food and 50 metric tons (MT) of rice are stocked at Porshurampur while 300 packet dry food and 18 MT rice are stocked at Fulgazi.
