The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has instructed to unfreeze the bank accounts of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

This move comes after 17 years of the accounts being frozen.

A letter has been sent to Bangladesh Bank (BB) from the NBR regarding the activation of all bank accounts of the BNP Chairperson.
Source said, the newly appointed NBR chairman Abdur Rahman Khan made this decision after consulting with the Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

In 2007, during the caretaker government’s tenure, the bank accounts of both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina were frozen. After Sheikh Hasina won the election and became the prime minister, her account was opened. Khaleda Zia's accounts remained blocked despite multiple requests from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
