Adani continues to supply electricity to Bangladesh as per demand, Adani Power said in a statement on Thursday
"Adani Power supplied above 750MW to Bangladesh on Wednesday and 769MW on Thursday as per the Bangladesh's demand," the statement reads.
The power is being supplied from an alternative unit as one unit of the Adani Power plant had to be shut down on August 13, 2024, for a technical issue. Following the closure, Adani maintained the standard communications protocol with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and the Power Grid Company Bangladesh (PGCB), it added.
"We regret any inconvenience caused by this technical fault. We are working hard to fix the technical issue at the earliest and restore the full capacity of power generation," the statement said.
Although it is unwanted, technical faults sometimes interrupt the operations of power plants across the globe, including the ones in Bangladesh being operated by local or foreign companies. Thus, excess capacity is built into the system to supply uninterrupted power, it reads.
The government signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in November 2017 with Adani Power under an unsolicited offer, to buy electricity from its 1600 MW power plant in Godda of Jharkhand. It started importing electricity from the plant in April 2023. The government needs to pay around $100 million every month to import electricity from the power plant.
Adani Power (APL), a part of the diversified Adani Group, is the largest private thermal power producer in India. The company has an installed thermal power capacity of 15,210 MW spread across eight power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand, apart from a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
